We’ve just returned from a new site visit in Umbria, a land of authentic beauty and untapped potential. In a breathtaking natural setting, we officially signed the preliminary agreement with the notary yesterday for the acquisition of the olive grove we had previously mentioned. Everything is proceeding according to plan, but the landscape is evolving rapidly.

The notary himself informed us that numerous offers are being made by unclear entities, willing to pay two to three times the market price to acquire agricultural land. Their goal? To install large-scale photovoltaic plants.
Meanwhile, new regulations have lowered the threshold for municipalities authorized to grant permits: only those with fewer than 25,000 inhabitants cannot authorize new photovoltaic installations. This is turning entire areas—including high-tourism zones—into targets for energy speculation.
The Value of Agricultural Land is Rising
But every challenge hides an opportunity. The interest in photovoltaics has increased land value—not only for sellers, but especially for those who resist. Holding firm and dedicating land to organic cultivation (olive groves, ancient grains, and arable land) is now a forward-thinking choice.
Those who preserve the agricultural vocation of the land will be rewarded, both economically and ethically/environmentally. The demand for high-quality food is set to grow exponentially, while the land available for such quality production will become increasingly scarce.
